About Pride Symbols & Emojis
The rainbow flag ๐ณ๏ธโ๐ was designed by Gilbert Baker in 1978 and has become the most recognised symbol of LGBTQ+ pride worldwide. Each colour of the rainbow carries meaning: red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, blue for serenity, and violet for spirit.
The transgender flag ๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธ was designed by Monica Helms in 1999, featuring light blue, pink, and white stripes. It was added to Unicode in 2020, making it available as an emoji across all modern devices and platforms.
Pride Month is celebrated in June, commemorating the Stonewall Riots of 1969. During this time, rainbow emojis and Pride symbols see massive increases in social media usage. These symbols are perfect for showing support, decorating bios, and celebrating love and equality year-round.
